
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 cleanroom, you already know the nightmare. One tiny speck of dust in the wrong place and your entire wafer batch is trash. It’s stressful. The problem is that most heating elements are secretly dirty. They outgas or shed particles right when you need them to be stable. That’s why we lean on high-purity quartz infrared lamps and Teflon-insulated wiring. It just makes sense.
The deal with high-purity quartz
We use synthetic high-purity quartz for the lamp envelope. Why? Because it doesn’t leak metallic ions and it won’t crystallize when things get hot. These lamps push out short-wave infrared radiation. This is the secret sauce. You can hit your target temperatures almost instantly without heating up the air around the part. Since the air stays still, you don’t get those annoying convection currents that kick up dust and land it right on your substrates.
Why we insist on Teflon
Most wiring uses PVC or silicone. In a high-heat environment, those materials basically start to melt or “off-gas.” Not great. We use Teflon (PTFE) instead. It handles the heat without breaking a sweat and doesn’t shed micro-plastics. It’s chemically inert, which means you can wire it up in a vacuum or a cleanroom and not spend the rest of your day worrying about contamination.
A few things to watch out for
Now, here’s the catch. High-density IR heating is fast—really fast—but it creates some intense heat in small spots. You have to be careful with your mounting brackets. Make sure they’re made of materials that won’t outgas. Also, keep an eye on your cooling system. If the area near the lamp ends gets too hot, your electrical connectors might give out sooner than you’d like.
Putting it into your tools
These lamps are built to slide right into your existing semiconductor curing or drying stages. By pairing the quartz envelope with Teflon leads, the whole heating footprint stays sterile. You get all the power you need, but you can finally stop worrying about particulates ruining your yield.
