
Getting Your Glovebox Heating Right
When you’re putting together a glovebox for a modern Fab, you don’t just need something that gets hot. You need something that actually listens to your digital controllers without any lag. That’s why we lean on Infrared (IR) elements. Think about it this way: convection heaters are clumsy. They try to warm up the entire volume of air in the chamber, which is a huge waste of energy. IR is different. It beams energy straight into the substrate. It’s direct, it’s fast, and it just makes sense. The digital side of things If you’re running a data-driven shop, your heating system can’t be a bottleneck. IR elements let you ramp up and cool down in a heartbeat. This means you can get your thermal windows incredibly tight. We build these to plug right into your PID controllers and PLC systems. You get to log your temperatures in real-time and tweak the wattage on the fly depending on what material you’re working with. It takes the guesswork out of the process. The actual hardware We usually go with tungsten filaments wrapped in quartz. The quartz is key—it keeps the filament safe from those inert gas environments you’re dealing with inside the box. Depending on what you’re doing, you’ve got two main choices: ***Shortwave:**This is for when you need high heat density and fast curing. ***Medium-wave:**This is your go-to for keeping things at a steady, consistent temperature. One thing to keep in mind: space is always tight in a glovebox. You can’t just jam something in there. We focus on precise lengths and the right connectors so everything fits snugly without putting any weird stress on the glass. The trade-off Here’s the thing. High-wattage IR elements are powerful, but they pack a punch. All that concentrated heat has to go somewhere. If your venting or cooling isn’t up to the task, you’re risking your seals or your electronics. It’s a balancing act. You have to weigh those lightning-fast ramp rates against how much heat your system can actually dump. If you don’t, you’re just asking for your components to fry prematurely.
